US President Donald Trump was in India earlier this week to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the goal of working out a trade deal between the two nations.
On the one hand, Mr. Trump continued to blame India for its high tariffs on imports. On the other, he proclaimed that he expected to conclude a "big trade deal" by year-end.
"Our teams have made tremendous progress on a comprehensive agreement, and I optmistic we can reach a deal that will be of great importance to both countries," said Mr. Trump.
The goal is for a bigger trade deal, possibly a free-trade agreement.
While the US imports a wide range of products from India, in recent years India has become a major importer of U.S. oil
In 2018 India imported 48.2 million barrels of oil, up from 9.6 million barrels in 2017.
