US Presidential Election: The Race is On!

Even if you’re not American and you don’t even do business with the U.S., the race to win the presidential election is likely to impact your life, even if just provide diversion.

March 3, 2020 was Super Tuesday, a showdown in the contest to select a candidate to represent the Democratic Party in the race to November election.

The serious business of electing the nation’s top leader seems more like a combination of a sports event and reality TV.

The election process – with endless media coverage – will have its own impact.

Current Top Concerns for the Apparel Industry

Tariffs.  The Phase One deal between the US and China in December halted the implementation of tariffs that otherwise would have been applied to most apparel categories as of December 2019.

For now, apparel has no such tariffs.  However, they could be back – and with little advanced warning.

Non-Tariff Barriers.  Limiting imports of various products.  Typically, this has not been much of a threat to apparel.

Economic Recession.  Public sentiment can be tricky – and difficult to manage.  A downturn in optimism will hit retail sales.

This is biggest concern since there are almost no workarounds.  If people are not in the mood to buy retail will feel that pain.
